Guardiola emphasized, "Semenyo's arrival prior to the initial game meant he was eligible. Now, in the final, why should Guehi be excluded? It's illogical. We're the ones paying his wages, making him our player."
He further added, "I've instructed the club to inquire about this matter. I've been here for a considerable time, and I fail to grasp the rationale behind Guehi's inability to play in the March final."
Guardiola's argument revolves around the logic of transfer rules. He explained, "The rules governing player transfers are set by FIFA, UEFA, and the Premier League. They dictate when the transfer window opens and when a purchased player can feature. It's straightforward. Of course, we'll make an attempt to request his participation. It's a matter of pure logic."
When asked about his expectations from the EFL's response, Guardiola replied, "No." However, he remained optimistic, adding, "But we will try."
Interestingly, City has already benefited from a rule change this season, allowing players to represent two teams in the same competition, thereby avoiding being 'cup-tied.' This change enabled Semenyo and Max Alleyne to feature in the semi-final matches, despite their previous appearances for Bournemouth and Watford, respectively.
