A recent spat between veteran actor Jaya Bachchan and the paparazzi has sparked a heated debate online, with the media world divided. In a candid conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt, Bachchan expressed her frustration with the paparazzi, leading to a controversial statement that has left many questioning her stance.
"I have zero relationship with them," she declared, referring to the paparazzi. "I am a product of the media, and these people, well, who are they? Are they trained to represent the country's people? Calling them media is a stretch. My father was a journalist, and I hold immense respect for such professionals."
But here's where it gets controversial: Bachchan's comments took a turn when she described the paparazzi's appearance, saying, "They wear tight drainpipes and gaudy pants, holding their mobiles... thinking they can take pictures and say whatever they want. And the comments they make—what kind of people are these? Where do they come from? What's their education and background?"
This statement has sparked a fierce response from the paparazzi community, with many feeling disrespected and disappointed.
Pallav Paliwal, a paparazzo, shared his thoughts, "It's unfortunate what she said. Her grandson's film is about to release, and if the paparazzi don't cover the promotions, it could affect its success. Amitabh ji, her father-in-law, comes out of his house every Sunday, and no leading media covers it; it's us, the paparazzi. Judging people based on appearance is unfair, especially when they work tirelessly day and night."
Manav Manglani, an industry veteran, added, "I respect Jaya ji, but she hasn't fully embraced the digital era. The shift from print to digital is challenging for her to grasp. Her kids and grandkids could help her understand. However, the influx of YouTubers and content creators has caused chaos, with some going to extreme lengths for viral content, which is unethical."
Varinder Chawla, another paparazzo, shared his experience, "I've been in this business for years, and I've always respected the celebs' wishes. Ranbir Kapoor asked us not to pap him, and so did Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's Dua. In 2023, I had a video of Amitabh ji from Delhi, where a fan tried to take a selfie and was pushed away rudely. Considering his age and image, I sent it to his PR, who requested I not post it, and I honored that."
Chawla continued, "I'm not saying all the boys on the field are right, and I've told them to watch their language. But Jaya ji should know—are all the paps she's targeting actual paparazzi, or are there YouTubers and fans mixed in? It's not right to speak so harshly. I told my colleagues to maintain their self-respect and boycott such behavior."
